Natura Viva

Natura Viva in italian, a still life is called natura morta.
dead nature.
this one is called natura viva.
for now.
this apple does not age with time.
it ages with you.
every visit takes a bite.
small, invisible, yours.
no one will ever see it whole again.
this is a participatory artwork.
it is not complete without you,
and it cannot survive you.
or maybe it can.
the first apple cost us paradise.
this one only costs a click.
at first, attention makes it ripe.
then attention starts to eat it.
bite after bite, the flesh turns brown,
like everything does
once it has been opened.
what happens after,
not even the apple knows.
no one tells you how many have looked.
no number. no proof.
only the apple, changing.
you came here to see it.
seeing it is how it disappears.
